Dear Parent/Carer

Following last week’s announcement from the First Minister that more children were set to return to school from Monday, 15 March, the Scottish Government yesterday (8 March) published updated guidance to support this move.

Before we provide details on the key points of the new guidance, it’s important to clarify the arrangements in schools from 15 March, subject to new evidence or circumstances.

All remaining primary school children (P4-P7) will return to school full-time.

In secondary schools, young people in S4-S6 who are taking national qualifications will be prioritised for face-to-face lessons. This is due to required safety measures, such as social distancing of two metres, and the continued delivery of remote learning.

Pupils in S1-S3 will also receive some time in school between 15 March and the Easter break.

In secondary schools, there will be a continued provision for children of key workers and vulnerable children.

Under the new guidance:

  • All secondary pupils will be required to wear face coverings in classrooms, communal areas and when moving about the school.
  • There will be changes to the mitigation measures on secondary school transport.
  • All secondary school pupils will be offered twice-weekly at home asymptomatic testing after the Easter break.

All secondary pupils are expected to return to full-time schooling after the Easter break.

Individual schools will be in touch with more details of their plans. If you have further questions, please contact individual schools.

Kind Regards
